About Your Session

Before a session, please think about your goals and wishes for your session. By doing so, you set yourself up to get the most out of the time. You gain more clarity or awareness, even if it is awareness of the lack of clarity. This preparation lets you be more present in the session, and it informs what and how you communicate with her, so that she can better meet you where you are.

Robbin typically offers sessions that are sixty to ninety minutes in length, with most of that time spent with you on the table, and some time before and after the table work for you to let her know about your state at that time, and for you to explore some self-care ideas to take away. At the start of each session, Robbin wants to learn about your goals and what is up for you that day, so she can tailor the session for you. She takes time after the table work for any questions or other sharing of information that feels right at that time. She might also include some movement at the beginning and the end to complement the table work. This is particularly true if you are receiving Trager® work, as that is an integral part of Trager, and is called Mentastics®. In some Trager sessions, you might find the Mentastics so much to your liking, that more time is spent on them.

All of the work is done with the greatest of consideration for the client’s comfort, well-being, and modesty. Trager and energy work can be done with the client clothed, although with Trager you should wear loose-fitting or stretchy clothes so you can move easily. Massage clients remain covered with a sheet (and blanket in cooler weather) at all times, with only an arm, leg, or the back uncovered separately for the work. Trager clients who wish to receive the table work with more skin contact can also be covered with the sheet, and are asked to wear underpants.

Regardless of the modality used, this is your time to relax, to be tended in a careful way, so that you can leave feeling more refreshed, at ease, and vibrant.

At any time during a session, Robbin needs and wants you to provide any feedback that occurs to you, particularly if you are uncomfortable in any way at all. Also, let her know if anything comes to mind that might make you more comfortable or make the session more wonderful for you, for example, adding a blanket for warmth, avoiding ticklish feet, more time with something that you particularly like, or a question that comes to your mind.

After a session drink extra water and take it easy. Three to five extra glasses of water over the next 24 hours is good. It is best if you can take it easy for the rest of the day to let the changes from our work settle into you, and for you to settle into them.

Notice whatever you notice in your body, mind, emotions or relationships. Notice all you can. Note what you want to remember, what you especially like. Notice the feeling. Then, you can recall that feeling at a later time, and you will recall and recreate the physiological state that accompanied that feeling. Recall.
